Announcer describes 'Field of Dreams' moment from Giants-Red Sox game

San Francisco Giants announcer Mike Krukow said Friday morning that outfielder Mike Yastrzemski's home run during Thursday's 3-1 win over the Boston Red Sox was a "Field of Dreams" moment.

The 33-year-old Giants outfielder is the grandson of Red Sox Hall of Famer Carl "Yaz" Yastrzemski, who hit 237 of his 452 career home runs at Fenway Park. The 1967 AL MVP and Triple Crown winner visited Mike before the game in the clubhouse.

Thursday's contest was Mike's sixth career game in Boston and the series finale of a three-game set between the Giants and Red Sox. He earlier played a three-game series at Fenway Park during his 2019 rookie season from Sept. 17-19.

The Vanderbilt product also homered in his first career game at "America's Most Beloved Ballpark" on Sept. 17, 2019, with his grandfather in attendance.

Yastrzemski tied for the Giants team lead in home runs (21) as a rookie, tied for second in 2020 (10) and ranked second in 2021 (career-high 25). Since then, however, his power has tapered off.

The lefty finished with 17 home runs and a career-worst .214/.305/.392 slash line in 2022 before being limited to 106 games in 2023 and hitting 15 long balls. He is off to a 15-for-62 (.242) start in 2024 with three home runs and 12 RBI.

The sixth-year outfielder now has 91 career home runs. Only 361 more to go to catch grandpa.
